Membership Inquiries

Information to Potential AAAA Applicants

Thank you for your interest in membership in the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. Membership requirements can be reviewed at the AAAA website in the By-Laws, specifically, the provisions of Article IV. We hope you will also find the rest of our By-Laws and Code of Ethics interesting and informative.

As you will see, AAAA is and was founded as an organization for existing, experienced adoption attorneys rather than simply as a group of attorneys who had some interest in adoption. We certainly wish to continue to bring in new members who have acquired the minimum level of expertise and experience required, or who otherwise have a unique connection to adoption practice that will benefit the group as a whole. For all of us who have become members, it has been a great organization through which to solve common problems, work on legislative actions, and of course, share with and learn from each other. For those who do not yet meet these criteria, we encourage you to continue to develop in the practice to the level of experience that you can join us at a future date.

After you have reviewed the By-Laws and Ethics requirements for membership, if you would like to apply, please click here for the Membership Application, Authorization, and Case Grid form (PDF, XLS, Sample), which you can download, print and complete. A separate application is available for judicial applicants, Judicial Application and honorary applicants, Honorary Application.

Because AAAA is intentionally small in numbers (about 330 attorneys in the U.S. and Canada), run by volunteer members who have to pay their staff, and because we do not wish to encourage membership requests by those who clearly do not have the minimum qualifications for membership, there is a Non-Refundable Application Fee of $150.

If you are committed to professionalism and compassion in an adoptive law practice, we do hope to see you become a member as your experience permits!
